Margaret Louise Atwater Profazi passed away unexpectedly on October 18, 2022, in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 70. She was born in Trinidad, Colorado on August 22, 1952, to John and Catherine Atwater. She graduated from Raton High School in 1970 and later attended Benedictine College, Albuquerque School of Banking, and Graduate School of Banking in Colorado. She worked in banking and lending in the Raton area for many years. In her retirement, she moved to Arizona and traveled the world with her long-time companion- Robert King.
Margaret is survived by her three children, son Chris Scanlon and wife Stacey of Las Cruces, New Mexico, daughter Jennifer Umphress and husband Shane of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and daughter Sarah Soladay and husband John of Chandler, Arizona, grandchildren Chris Scanlon, Johnny Umphress, Alexis Umphress, and Logan Soladay, and great-grandson Lucas Scanlon. Her siblings- David Atwater and wife Mary, Bernard Atwater, Dennis Atwater and wife Kathy, Cathy Hephner, Trish James and husband Randy, Mark Atwater and wife Molly, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Atwater, brother Kenneth Atwater, and granddaughter Allison Umphress.
A celebration of life will be held in Raton at the Icehouse on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the ALS Association, which supports a cause near Margaret’s heart.
