The Santa Fe Indian School Braves travelled up from Santa Fe Saturday January 28, and took home a pair of wins leaving Raton a bit bewildered and asking what happened as both games saw 20 plus wins over the Tigers.
In the JV game fans watched as the Raton ball simply wouldn’t go down during the entire game. Raton could only muster five points the entire game as the Braves went on to a 54-5 win.
The varsity game saw the Tigers make the first basket and then go back and forth for the first quarter ending the quarter only four points behind the Braves. The second quarter was another low scoring affair with both teams in the single digits and closing the half with a 21-19 Brave’s lead.
The third quarter, well that went a bit different with Santa Fe Indian putting the shopping to Raton with aggressive play making turnovers and keeping Raton’s ball out of the basket with wild shots. At the end of the third the Braves had spread the lead out to 14 points.
The fourth quarter saw Raton get aggressive going to the basket but once again failing to make the needed points. The free throw line was more forgiving for the Tigers as they dropped in seven of 10 free throws with Anderson Weese making four of four at the line. As the buzzer sounded to end this game Santa Fe Indian was up by 21.
