It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Herrera on January 21st, 2023. Alice was born on September 29, 1943, and was a lifelong resident of Raton. She graduated from Raton High School in 1962. During that time, she participated in several sports activities.
Family members who preceded her in death were her husband Santiago “FlatBush” Lopez, son Michael James, parents Faustin & Mary Herrera, sister Josephine Gallegos and brother Joe Martinez.
Surviving family members who loved and will miss Alice are Lillian Esparza, husband Rafael and son Michael, sisters Tillie Martinez, Frances McDowell, and Irene Madrid. As well as numerous nieces and nephews from the Valdez, Madrid, Ortiz, Gallegos, and Martinez families.
Our Dear Alice will be remembered as a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her humble and caring spirit was apparent in her generous acts of kindness. Her love of playing for the Women’s Softball Leagues, being an effective Union Vice-President/Stewart for the Raton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, participating in the Alzheimer Memory Walks, and preparing yearly football pools were a few of the special qualities that endeared her to us. She will forever remain in our loving memories.
