BACKGROUND: Agnes was born on January 21, 1920, in Clayton, New Mexico to William and Mattie (Cunningham) Behm. She was a lifelong resident of the Clayton area, with the exception of about five years. She spent two years in college at Portales, New Mexico, earning an AA Degree in Secretarial Science, and three years in employment at Espanola and Las Vegas, New Mexico. She grew up in the Cuates community, 28 miles north of Clayton. She attended the Prairie Dale grade school and high school at Seneca for 9two years) and Clayton (two years), graduating in 1938. Her employment began in January of 1941 with the United States Department of Agriculture–Farm Security Administration–and later transferred to the Soil Conservation Service. Due to her secretarial position being abolished in Clayton in 1966, she chose early retirement rather than transfer to Las Vegas or Albuquerque. Following retirement, she held various part-time jobs: Bookkeeper for Allen Equipment Co. At Texline, Texas, and its successor Lawrence Bros. Equipment at Texline; various positions at the First National Bank in Clayton for 19 months; office work at the Five State Livestock Auction on sale days (Wednesdays) for 25 years; floor clerk at the local J. C. Penney store for a brief time; income tax work with H & R Block at Dumas, Texas, during the 1971 tax season; and various typing assignments. She began her own tax service in 1970, closing her business in April 1996. Agnes was a past member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, VFW Auxiliary, and Belles Lettres Club. She was a member of the Golden Age Club, the Mayor’s Committee on Aging, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #27. Agnes was a Protestant. Her love of the land made her feel close to the Lord. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents-father in June 1973 and mother in June 1979–and her brother, George, in March 1997.

Survivors include a number of cousins who live at various distant locations. Agnes requested that there be no memorials and no viewing.
