Dan T. Quintana, born 7/28/1923 in Brilliant, NM, passed away at 99 years old on 12/23/2022 at MCMC Long-term, Raton, NM.  Dan is survived by his son Gene Quintana and partner Shira, daughters Patricia Casias, and Bernice Chavez, and husband Vernon, JoAnn Romero, and husband Paul, 10 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by the death of his wife Juanita, his parents Damacio and Luz, and 2 sisters, Pauline and Agnes.

Dan served in the US Coast Guard during WWII from 1943-1946.  Upon returning from the war, he married his hometown girlfriend, Juanita Cordova, and began working in the Coal Mines, in and around Raton, Brilliant, Koehler, and Van Houten.  Some years later he began working at the Post Office and retired in 1978.

Dan was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1793.  As a VFW member, he served as Commander for several years, as State Trustee, and on other committees.  He inducted the Vietnam Vets into the VFW in 1976.  He was the oldest living member of the VFW in Raton from WWII.

Dan was very active in life and enjoyed many hobbies.  He loved baseball, played, and coached various softball teams.  He served on the Recreation Board and maintained the baseball fields.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter and harvested his last elk at 80 years old. He continued to fish until he was 90 years old and enjoyed golf until he was 93 years old and accomplished the making a hole in one on 2 occasions.

Recitation of the most Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s / St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Frank Cimino. Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11:30 a.m. January 18, 2023, at St. Patrick’s/ St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Woyatvich as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal and Inurnment with Miltary Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements for Dan T. Quintana are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
