In Loving Memory of Norbert B. Marquez

June 6, 1929 – December 21, 2022

Norbert B. Marquez, age 93, was called home to be with his beloved Father in heaven where he is now resting in peace and no longer suffering.

Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM (noon) on Wednesday, December 28 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton with Fr. Joseph Baltz as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Marquez Cemetery on the Marquez Ranch by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Norbert B. Marquez was born on June 6, 1929, in Des Moines, New Mexico to Juan F. Marquez and Clarita (Garcia) Marquez. A lifelong resident of Union County, New Mexico, he served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1955 and fought in the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. Norbert farmed and ranched and worked construction most of his life. Norbert was a devoted member of the Clayton VFW Post 3271. Norbert will be greatly missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and comrades. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Norbert loved to watch the rodeos and cowboy shows on TV, and he loved to hunt, fish, and ride horses. He loved spending time at the Marquez Ranch with his brother Joe T. Marquez, they were like two peas in a pod. He loved to attend the XIT Rodeo and BBQ. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, Juan F. Marquez and Clarita (Garcia) Marquez, by 2 brothers, Nash Marquez and Elmer Marquez, 1 sister, Mary Grace Martinez, and by a daughter-in-law, Ginger Marquez. You will be greatly missed, Dad! Rest in peace with God and the Angels. We will see you again!

SURVIVORS:

3 DAUGHTERS: Julie Marquez of Clayton, New Mexico, Diana Johnson and her husband Stan of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Sandra Wakitsch and her husband Scott of El Paso, Texas.

3 SONS: Anthony Marquez of Dalhart, Texas, and Benjamin Jimenez and Vincent Jimenez both of Clayton, New Mexico.

3 BROTHERS: Joe T. Marquez of Des Moines, New Mexico, Joe Ben Marquez of Dalhart, Texas and Johnny Marquez of Dumas, Texas.

Numerous Grandchildren: Sherina and husband Zach Bickel, Dawnia Marquez and Danny Pelayo, Isabella Jimenez, Michael Jimenez, Kira Kingsley, Joasin Jimenez, Natalie and fiancé Lewie Colon, Christina and husband Nomi Ahmed and MyraShea Makalynn Paige Wakitsch.

Great-Grandchildren: Zoe and Zerek Bickel, John and Nathan Clores, Caleb Shroyer and Aleem, Sameer, Adeem, and Saheem Ahmed.

MEMORIALS: The family asks that memorials be made in Norbert’s Memory to Clayton VFW Post 3271.
