Raton City Commissioners met Tuesday evening November 8, 2022 to consider the introduction of a supplement to Ordinance 940 and finalize the 2023 Capital Outlay Priorities.
Commissioners approved the event form for Raton Mainstreet’s Festival of Lights Static Parade on Historic First Street to be held on Friday November 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The City Christmas Tree will be lit at about at 4:40 p.m. followed by the parade and the Buscarini Winter Wonderland.
City Manager Scott Berry discussed the legislative Capital Outlay priorities for the upcoming 60 day legislative session. The document is necessary so that legislatures know the city has made preparations for their requests. (Link to Capital Outlay 2023)
Commissioners approved the introduction of a supplement to Ordinance 940 for the purpose of declaring an emergency in the City of Raton. The supplement question will have one public hearing before it will be approved by the commission. This also includes a codification of the current ordinance.
Commissioners once again tabled the certification of the Capital Assets Inventory as its is still not completed.
Commissioners approved paying membership dues for the Ports-to-Plains Alliance. This will also give Raton a seat on the board of directors. The dues for Raton are $3685.01. The Alliance is in big part responsible for the four leaning of Highway 64/87 between Raton and Clayton.
Commissioners also approved the resolution allowing the destruction of municipal court records.
City Manager’s report included affordable housing meetings that Berry attended. Berry will make a presentation at a Mainstreet virtual meeting concerning the Raton vacant building ordinance and how it works as well as the results Raton has had on the subject. Raton is also in the process of requesting money for the Brownfield program which will deal with some vacant buildings in Raton.
The city will request 10 acres of county property at the La Mesa airport for the solar project. Work will begin on Colfax Ave from 2nd to Brilliant St. Friday and Saturday with closures of the street both days.
The Commission will meet again on November 22 at 6:00 p.m.
