November Artist in Residence Events

Capulin New Mexico, Capulin Volcano National Monument–
Capulin Volcano is proud to be hosting our November Artist in Residence composer Dr. John
Sichel. Dr. Sichel will be spending the month exploring the sights and sounds of Capulin
Volcano and take that inspiration home with him to include in future compositions.
Dr. Sichel studied at the Yale School of Music from where he received his Doctor of Musical
Arts degree in 1990. He is a member of the full-time music faculty at Raritan Valley Community
College. He is also the music director of the Madrigal Singers, a Renaissance vocal ensemble based
in Cranford, New Jersey. His hobbies include birding and astronomy.
Capulin is hosting a “Meet and Greet” on November 12th from 1 to 2 pm at the Capulin Volcano
Visitor Center, and a presentation on “The Music of Birds” on November 18th from 1 to 2 PM in
the Capulin Volcano Visitor Center Theater.
Come and meet with John about using natural sounds and inspirations from nature in his musical
works.
Both events are free and open to the public.
