Patrocinio Louis Montoya, age 84, died on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas.

Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Thursday, November 3rd and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 3rd following the Rosary at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton with Fr. Joseph Baltz as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Patrocinio Louis Montoya was born on November 9, 1937, in Clayton, New Mexico to Antonio Montoya and Agapita (Casados) Montoya. He attended school in Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School in 1955. Louis served in the US Air Force as a chaplain. Louis married Addie on June 4, 1966, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2018. They were foster parents to 14 children. Louis was the St. Francis Xavier Deacon for 40 years, together with Addie, they owned and operated restaurants in Clayton for many years. Louis worked for the Clayton Schools at the preschool for about 15 years and retired in 2008, while working with the school he took classes from Panhandle State University and New Mexico Highlands University. Louis also worked as the Chaplain for the Northeast New Mexico Detention Facility for several years. In addition to his wife and parents, Louis was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Tony Montoya, Jr., Lawrence Montoya, Charley Montoya, and Felix Montoya, 3 sisters, Flora Sanchez, and Rachel and Helen, 9 sisters-in-law, Juanita Rael, Pauline Rael, Jean Talley, Dorothy Sanchez, Gloria Merecki, Belen Simoes, Irene Rael, Adelina Montoya and Viola Rael and by 10 brothers-in-law, Charlie Rael, Richard Rael, Joe Rael, Jr., Jose Manuel Rael, Johnny Rael, Dennis Rael, Joe Simoes, Jim Talley, Pete McDonald, and Donato Sanchez.

SURVIVORS:

4 DAUGHTERS: Mary Jean Willard of Texico, New Mexico, Lorraine Padilla and Virgil of Clayton, New Mexico, Virginia Garrido and Peter of Wahiawa, Hawaii and Rachel Montoya and Annetta Jordan of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

1 SON: Patrick Montoya and Shelley of Amarillo, Texas.

9 GRANDCHILDREN: Grace Mueller, Nicholas Jordan and Steven, Ryan Padilla, Xavier Garrido, Ethan Montoya, Ella Montoya, Grayson Montoya, Baylee Johnson, and Mackenzie Johnson.

2 BROTHERS: Dick Montoya and Lugarita and Leo Montoya and Mary all of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 SISTERS: Margaret Vigil and Abdon of Dumas, Texas.

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, God Daughters, and God Sons.

MEMORIALS: The family asks that memorials be made in Louis’ Memory to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton.
