Susie A. Apodaca, 89 from Raton, New Mexico passed away on October 16, 2022, at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado after a short illness, She was born April 24, 1933 in Des Moines New Mexico to Theresa and John Rivera. She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Apodaca, sons Robert and Rodney Apodaca, her parents John and Theresa Rivera, sister Patricia Yardley and brother Levi Rivera, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Apodaca of Fountain, Colorado, her brother David Leroy Rivera of Raton, New Mexico, sister Mary Lou Quakenbush of Denham Springs, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews who all meant the world to her.
Susie graduated from Des Moines High School in 1951 and then moved to Raton in 1953 where she met and married Manuel in 1955 and they were married 59 years. She worked many jobs in Raton- Newberry’s, United Chevrolet and Colfax County in the Treasures office where she retired in 1994. She enjoyed her retirement by doing her crafts-crocheting, embroidery counted cross stitch, needlepoint and whatever else she wanted to try and was known to join in some of the area craft fairs with her daughter Cheryl and sister Pat. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s/St. Patrick’s Altar Society for many years. She was always overjoyed when the family came to visit so she could catch up on everything.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at St. Joseph’s/St. Patrick’s Catholic Church recited by the Legion of Mary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will on Friday October 28, 2022 at 11:30 AM with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Fairmont Cemetery.
There will be a luncheon following the service at the St. Joseph’s/St. Patrick’s Parish Hall.
