In Loving Memory of Richard Lloyd Salazar Jr.

Richard Lloyd Salazar Jr., age 33 of Raton NM, passed away September 4, 2022, in Albuquerque, NM at UNM hospital.

Richard was born on June 24, 1989, to Richard Salazar Sr. and Lisa Madrid. He was born and raised in Raton, and if you knew Richard, you would agree he had a heart of gold and was sweet, loving, kind, and gentle. His smile could light up the darkest room and he was always helping out others no matter what it was, he would go out of his way to help out. He loved spending time with his family and his sister’s family and loved spending time camping, riding bikes, going swimming, and horseback riding. Even when he got bucked off a horse he still was eager to get back on and go on riding. In school, he played t-ball and basketball and he had a passion to draw. Richard had a great sense of humor and a goofy side to him which quickly cheered up anyone and brightened their day. Richard will be missed dearly.

He was preceded by his grandfather Joe Able Madrid of Raton, his grandfather Philip Salazar of Springer and Aunt Theresa Madrid of Raton, and uncle Lawrence Torres of Longmont, CO.

He is survived by his mother, Lisa Madrid of Raton. Father Richard Salazar Sr. of Springer, and his son Frankie Montez of Denver. Sisters, Rhonda Salazar of Raton, Vitia Salazar of Ohio, Shannon Lemmon of Louisiana, and sister Nicole Salazar of Raton and one brother Johnathon Madrid of Raton. Four nieces Selena Garcia, Shantel Perry of Pueblo, Theresa Marquez, Aysa “Rae Cordova of Raton and five nephews, Timothy Perry of Pueblo, Gabriel Salazar, Daniel Salazar, Anthony Casas Jr and Nasiah Abel Cordova of Raton. His grandmother Irene Madrid of Raton and Mary Chavez of Springer. His Aunts Susie Madrid and family of Raton, Lucille Madrid and family of Raton, Aunt Rita Cortez and family of Cimarron. His uncles David Madrid and family of Albuquerque , Andrew Madrid and family of Raton, Uncle Antonio Salazar and family of Raton, Philip Salazar and family of Cimarron, Benito Chavez and Julian Chavez of Cimarron, also surviving are numerous cousins.

A service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Lighthouse Church in Raton with burial to put him to rest at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. A lunch will take place after at the Craftsman Ministries, 225 North Second St., Raton.
