Clarice Arlene Baker Mayfield Obit
Arlene Baker Mayfield, age 84, passed away August 10, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas after a massive stroke. Arlene was born to Mort and Wilma Baker on July 25, 1938, in Senaca, NM. She was born the baby sister to Weston, Lavana and Merle Baker.
Arlene grew up on the family ranch near Senaca and attended the elementary school there, then transferred to Clayton High School where she graduated in 1956. She married Jim Mayfield September 14, 1957, at her sister’s home in Clayton. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Johnson in Clayton. After Jim bought the TV Repair business Arlene stayed at home and raised their kids while taking care of the books for the business. As the kids grew up Arlene and Jim followed them to sporting events then when grandkids arrived, they both enjoyed watching them play ball too, following them all over the state.
She would often tell the story about her horse Bill opening the wire gates for her when they went to check or gather cattle adding that dad had to make the wire gates extra tight to keep Bill from opening them and getting out of the pasture, he was in. She also reminded her kids that her and her siblings would have to walk down the lane from the house (about a mile) to meet the school bus after a big rain or when the lane was blocked with snow sometimes riding a hay wagon pulled by horses.
She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Jim just this last February, brother Weston Baker, sisters Lavanna Bailey and Merle Wiley and daughter Lorri Ann Mayfield Montoya and
She is survived by son Marty Mayfield and wife Holly of Raton NM, daughter Valeetah Mayfield and partner Steve Spencer of Plainview, Tx, son-in-law Lorenzo Montoya. Also surviving is eight grandsons, Matthew Mayfield, Wesley & wife Gracie Mayfield, Michael and wife Michelle Gard, Bradley and wife Krista Gard, Jeremy and wife Sarah Howard, Andrew and wife Taylor Howard, Benjamin and Andres Montoya, step grandkids Zachary and wife Lindsey Butt, Christine and husband Aaron Price. 23 great grand kids. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers or plants may be taken to the home at 301 Wilson St in Clayton.
Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
