In Loving Memory of Fred A Martinez

Fred A Martinez bravely fought and sadly lost his yearlong battle with Cancer. He was born in Cimarron, NM on June 19, 1950, and passed away on June 14, 2022, at his home in Cimarron with his wife Elizabeth by his side.

He was a very caring, friendly, generous, giving, humble, kind, and loving man. He was highly respected in his community.

Throughout his lifetime he held various jobs. He was employed at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch as a meat cutter for 22 years, a carpenter for 10 years, general maintenance for 3 years and retired in 2012 after 35 years of service. He touched the lives of so many summer staff who kept in touch with him and returned to visit him when they were in town.

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Eva Martinez. His brothers: Jose Damian (Diamond)

Espinoza; Frujencio Edward (Eddie) Espinoza and Joe I Martinez; Sister-in-law: Bernice Martinez and Brother-in-law: Simon Apodaca and Infant grandchild: Joseph Isaiah Cisneros. Also preceding him in death are his In-laws: Bernardino and Antonina Chavez; Brothers-in-law: Jose Samuel Guara, Robert Chavez, James Chavez, Bernardino Chavez Jr., and Elmer Chavez Sr; Sisters-in-law: Frances Chavez and Pita Chavez as well as several nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish his memory and the wonderful life they shared for 27 years, is his wife Elizabeth (Chavez) Martinez of the family home in Cimarron as well as his faithful companion and beloved German shepherd Logan.

He is survived by the mother of his children Linda Martinez and their children: Sandra (James) Cisneros of Albuquerque, NM; Adam (Fred) Martinez of Alexandria, VA; Alysha Martinez of Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren: Mariah Cisneros, Kimberly (Michael) Trujillo, Mateo Vigil, Alexia Cisneros and James Ryan Cisneros. Great grandchildren: Klea Trujillo and Adrian Trujillo.

Cimarron, NM; Rosie (Charlie) Romero of Clayton, NM; Samuel Martinez of Cimarron, NM; James (Yolanda) Martinez of Santa Fe, NM; Maryann Apodaca of Raton, NM. Sisters-in law: Carmen Espinoza, Carol Espinoza and MaryAnn Martinez.

His In-laws: Leroy (Linda) Chavez of Odessa, TX; Alfonso Chavez of Springer, NM; Mary Alice Guara of Odessa, TX; Marcella Gonzales of Edgewood, NM; Lucia (Chris) Hernandez of Edgewood, NM; Mike

Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; Paul (Darlene) Chavez of Cimarron, NM; Patrick Chavez of Albuquerque, NM. Sisters-in-law: Juliana Chavez, Irma Chavez, and Martha Chavez. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Elizabeth would like to thank everyone for their kindness, love, prayers, thoughts, and well wishes. A special thank you goes out to Elizabeth’s sister Marcela for always being there, caring for Logan, and house-sitting while they were out of town. A special thank you goes out to Fred’s brother Ralph for the housing he provided and for driving them to Fred’s many doctor appointments while they were in Denver.

A special thank you goes out to Dr. Scott Herbert and the staff of the Christus St Vincent Cancer Center in Santa Fe, NM, and Dr. Michael Tees and the staff of the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute at Presbyterian St Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, CO for the excellent care they provided Fred during his battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She would also like to thank Christine Sisneros and Dominique Barela of ANVOI Hospice for the care they provided Fred in his final days of life.

Per Fred’s request, there will be no services.

Cremation arrangements for Fred A Martinez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
