Boe Lopez of Springer, NM Appointed to Cattlemen’s Beef Board

SPRINGER, NM (June 13, 2022) – Boe Lopez of Springer, New Mexico has been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion & Research Board (CBB). The CBB is responsible for guiding the national Beef Checkoff Program.

Born and raised in Springer, Lopez holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in agriculture business from New Mexico State University. He is a fourth-generation rancher at Diamond Arrow Ranch, running a cow-calf operation and occasionally yearlings depending on drought conditions. The Lopez family also owns plumbing, heating, and septic business along with an interest in tell pharmacies in New Mexico.

I feel it’s important to be involved to stay abreast of the issues impacting the beef industry and agriculture in general,” Lopez said. “As I join the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, I’m excited to see what work is being done currently and learn how I can help develop new ideas and innovations to help the beef industry grow and thrive.”

The current mayor of Springer, Lopez is also active in New Mexico agriculture, serving on the board of the United States Cattlemen, and as second vice president for New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau. He’s a member of New Mexico Cattle Growers and an advisory board member for the New Mexico State Land Office. Lopez was appointed to the New Mexico Soil Commission, and he also serves as chairman for the Colfax County Soil and Water Conservation District, executive committee member for the Colfax County Fair Board and board member for the Colfax County Farm and Livestock Bureau.

“We’re very pleased to have Boe as a member of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board,” said Norman Voyles, Jr., 2022 CBB chair. “He’s very involved in state and local organizations throughout New Mexico, and he understands the dedication and desires it takes to be a real leader. We look forward to working with him to continue driving beef demand.”

The CBB consists of 101 members, including domestic beef, dairy, and veal producers, as well as importers of beef and beef products. Producer representation on the Board is based on cattle inventory in each state while importer representation is based on a conversion of the volume of imports into live animal equivalencies. Each Beef Board member is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture from nominations submitted by certified nominating organizations that represent beef and dairy producers in each state or region. Importer appointments are chosen from nominations by importer associations.
