SERVICES: Rosary will be recited at 9:0 A.M. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM following the rosary at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Fr. Joseph Baltz as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico. BACKGROUND: Vicky was born on December 28, 1954, in Clayton, New Mexico to Frank Archuleta and Felipita Maestas. Vicky was raised in Clayton. She met the love of her life in April of 1969 in her parent’s driveway. Chris couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. He says he believes in love at first sight. They dated for three years, then on July 1, 1972, she married her love, best friend, and partner of fifty years. She graduated from Texline High School in 1973. Vicky started working at a young age pulling broomcorn then working at restaurants washing dishes and waiting tables, she worked at Clayton Nursing Home for 14 years, Texline State Bank for 14 years, and at the Farmers and Stockmans Bank for 13 years until she was diagnosed with cancer. Vicky was a very dedicated worker whether it was working at the bank or mowing her yard or other people’s yards, everything had to be done perfectly. She loved to bake and decorate homemade cakes and bake homemade bread, often with her and Chris dancing in the kitchen which she loved to do. Vicky loved to dance so much that it did not matter where they were if there were any music she and Chris would dance, especially to NM Spanish music, Country Western, and 50’s music. Vicky was preceded in death by her father, Frank Archuleta, brothers, Alfonso Maestas and Baby Frankie, a great-grandson, Jackson Reed Griffin, sisters, Mellie Bodine, Evelyn Maestas, and Juanita Maestas, sisters-in-law, Cora Maestas and Nora Maestas and a very special sister-in-law which she considered more of a sister, Mary Archuleta. Vicky leaves behind her husband Chris Herrera of Texline, 1 son, Christopher Herrera and Krista, and 2 daughters, Melinda Herrera and Jennifer Tomas and Manuel all of Clayton, 2 very special grandson’s that she raised and loved very much, Benjamin Lujan and Angel Lujan of Texline and Christopher Herrera, Jr. Of Clayton. Granddaughters, Amber Romero and Ricky Squiers of Georgia, Ashley Romero, Nate Griffin, and Victoria Adelia Tomas all of Clayton, great-grandchildren Logan and Paisley Squires of Georgia and Kennedee and Oliver Griffin of Clayton, her mother Felipita Maestas of Clayton, sisters, Gloria Lucero and Joe, Betty Archuleta and James all of Clayton, Amy Zambrano of Hugoton, Kansas and Sadie Castillo of Muleshoe, Texas, brothers, Gene Archuleta and Felix Maestas of Clayton and Juan Maestas of Meadow Lake, NM and numerous nephews and nieces.
