In Loving Memory of J. Gail Valdez – KRTN Enchanted Air Radio

J. Gail Valdez passed away on January 6, 2022, in Raton, NM. She was born in Speedwell, TN. on July 23, 1948, the daughter of Clyde and Nora Thomas. Her family relocated to the Stonewall/Weston area of Colorado, in 1952. She graduated from Primero High School and then married the love of her life, Paul Valdez, a union that lasted for 55 years. They resided in Trinidad for several years and then moved to Raton. She began her working career in retail at Jamison’s Department store and then with Mountain Bell as a long-distance operator. Once in Raton, she entered the medical profession as a receptionist/insurance clerk. She then went to Raton’s Public Schools as a secretary and retired in 2013. It gave her great pleasure to see many of Raton’s fine young people go from kindergarten through grade twelve. She took a lot of pride in watching them grow and learn.
She is survived by her beloved husband Paul of the home, sons James Valdez and wife Suzanne and John Paul Valdez, daughter Jennifer Espinoza and husband Chris, all of Raton. Also, surviving are six grandchildren, Taityn, Joey, Tyleigh, Rihanna Valdez, and Cody and Cade Espinoza.
She was very active in her church, serving as lector/commentator and Eucharistic Minister for many years. She also served as RCIA Coordinator. She loved cooking, spending time with her family, playing cards with friends, and reading.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be on March 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church was recited by Frank Cimino, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Bill Wytovich as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of food or flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
