Elizabeth J. Massarotti, age 90, passed away on March 14, 2022 at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, CO with her loving and caring nursing center staff by her side. The third oldest of five children, Elizabeth was born in Sopris Plaza, CO on March 31, 1931 to Joe B and Frances (Cimino) Antista.
Elizabeth attended grade schools at Lincoln (Sopris) and at Hoehne. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Trinidad, CO and from Trinidad State Junior College. After graduation, Elizabeth was employed by the Las Animas-Huerfano Counties Health Department.
Elizabeth was married to Frank J. Massarotti at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Trinidad, CO on May 16, 1953. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish for many years and later that of Holy Trinity Catholic parish. Elizabeth was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Mount Carmel Court #1556, a long-time member of the Altar Societies of both parishes, and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society of Holy Trinity parish.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank, infant son Thomas William, and son Robert (Robbie); her parents Joe B and Frances (Cimino) Antista; infant sister Elizabeth, brother Bart J Antista, and sister Mary Rose Ozzello; sisters and brothers-in-law Julie Antista, Linda Antista, Tano Ozzello, Tony and Marie Adele Massarotti, Joe and Violet Pompia, Frank and Lucy Saccomanno.
Elizabeth’s never-ending love will be cherished by her surviving children, Sr. Regina Marie Massarotti, O.S.F, Patricia (Paul) Andreatta, Frank (Dorene) Massarotti, John (Lori) Massarotti, and Alicia Massarotti; by her grandchildren Aaron (Stormy) Slavek, Ashley (Wyatt) Lisonbee, Arianna (Joe Weber) Andreatta, Stephanie, Robbie, and Brianna Massarotti and Brian Twitty; by her great-grandchildren Tucker, Kadence, Aubrey and Kolby Lisonbee and Amelia Slavek; her brother Joe Antista, brothers and sisters-in-law Florie and Marie Massarotti and Dr. Michael and Sharon Massarotti; very special cousins Lucille and Anthony Mattie and their children Regina Mattie, Danny (Laura) Mattie and God-daughter Michelle (Jason) Jenkins; very special nieces and nephews, to whom she affectionately referred to as her “Stonewall buddies,” Phyllis and Bill Massarotti and their children Gina, Vince, and Stacey; her dear nephew who provided loving professional medical care as her primary physician Dr. Joseph Jimenez; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; and her dear and exceptional care givers Grace Martinez and staff at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center.
Active pallbearers are nephews Joseph Jimenez, Bill Massarotti, Chris Massarotti, Vince Massarotti, Tano (Bud) Ozzello, and Joseph Saccomanno.
Honorary pallbearers are Elizabeth’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 3pm-7pm at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with recitation of the Rosary at noon, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. Reception to follow at Mt. Carmel Health and Wellness Center Garden Room.
