In Loving Memory of John B. Montera

John B. Montera, 88, more affectionately known as “Ducky,” passed away on February 11, 2022.  Ducky passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Ducky was a 1st generation Italian, born on January 3, 1934 in Delagua, CO to John and Victoria (Vecchio) Montera, both of whom immigrated from the Calabrian region of Italy in the early 1900s.

Ducky attended Delagua schools and then graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1952.  It was at Holy Trinity where he met the love of his life, Irene Mazza, whom he married on September 10, 1955.

Ducky went into business as a distributor for Tom’s Peanuts where he successfully built the business over the next 35 years.

Ducky had a love for music and formulated a family orchestra where he played drums and bass.  During his retirement years he played for the Trinidairs Big Band.

Ducky loved spending time with his family.  He had a passion for life, was extremely social and well known and loved by the community.  Ducky will be remembered for his beautiful smile, his generosity, and compassion for helping others.   Some of his favorite pastimes included playing cards with his gambling buddies, drinking coffee with the McDonalds coffee club, visiting new places and meeting new people.

Ducky is preceded in death by his father John, Mother Victoria, brothers Frank (Violet) Montera, Joseph (Bernice) Montera.  In-laws Sisto (Phyllis) Mazza, Frank (Jackie) Mazza, Louise (Louie) DiPaola, Olga (Dan) Masero, Mildred (Cecil) Durden.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of 67 years, children, Cathy Montera, Judy (Bob) Shew, Jim (Jill) Montera, Diane (Audie) Martin, Steve (Cindy) Montera.  Grandchildren include Stacey (Brad) Blasi, Marcie (Travis) Knezel, Scott (Jesse) Shew, Shannon (Chris) Baillargeon, Jordan Montera, Jace Montera, Emily Montera, Isabella Montera.  Great Grandchildren Connor & Addison Knezel;  Brady, Beau and Brock Blasi; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Servicers will be held Friday, February  18, 2022, at 1pm at Mt. Carmel Chapel with Brother Harry Gonzales officiating.

Private family inurnment will be held at a later date,
