In Loving Memory of Jim Mayfield

Jim Mayfield passed on February 10, 2022, in Clayton New Mexico after a long battle with cancer.  Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.Jim was born June 10, 1939, to Gilbert Christopher Mayfield and Gracie Louetta Irwin Mayfield in Clayton, New Mexico, the youngest of five children. Jim lived in Clayton all his life and graduated from Clayton High School in 1957. He married Clarice Arlene Baker on September 14, 1957. Jim worked for Southwestern Electric Coop where he gained the skills he needed to take on his second job building the first cable TV system in Clayton for Dodson Cable Company. He bought the Clayton portion of C&C Communications, a radiotelephone business, then purchased Al Trickey’s TV repair business to add to the mix. He owned and operated C&C Communications for over 50 years. Jim joined the National Guard his senior year of high school and later went through OSC at Fort Bliss, Texas, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant. Jim rose to the rank of Captain before he was honorably discharged. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers SD Mayfield and David Mayfield and two sisters, Christine Mayfield and Carmen Belle Mayfield Boucher, and by a daughter, Lorri Ann Mayfield Montoya.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Arlene of the home, son Marty Mayfield and wife Holly of Raton New Mexico, daughter Valeetah Mayfield of Plainview, Texas, son-in-law Lorenzo Montoya. Also surviving are eight grandsons, Matthew Mayfield, Wesley & wife Gracie Mayfield, Michael and wife Michelle Gard, Bradley and wife Krista Gard, Jeremy and wife Sarah Howard, Andrew and wife Taylor Howard, Benjamin and Andres Montoya, step grandkids Zachary and wife Lindsey Butt, Christine and husband Aaron Price. 23 great-grandkids. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Union County General Hospital in Clayton, NM.
