The Lady Tigers came into the district game with West Las Vegas without a district win and ended it after a back and forth barn burner of game by two to finish off the home games for the regular season.
It was a close game throughout as Raton lead by one after the first quarter and only three at the half. Neither team had a lot of success from the field as several balls simply wouldn’t fall. Raton struggled underneath as well but managed to keep the lead. The girls also struggled at the free throw line with both teams hitting less than 50%.
Second half action was just as tight and ended the third quarter with a tie game at 26. In the fourth quarter Raton managed to keep the lead for a while then the Lady Dons tied it. It was nip and tuck down to the wire as both teams worked to win the game. As the game neared the end the referees whistled came alive sending both teams to the free throw line where the game was won and lost. West down by two missed key free throws to tie or win the game as did Raton. West went four of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter While Raton went three of eight.
There is no doubt had either team done better than 50% at the charity stripe the result could have been different. West did 14 of 30 while Raton dropped in eight of 23 shots from the line. At the final buzzer it was Raton 36-34 over West.
