In Loving Memory of Ernest Marquez

Ernest Marquez, 75, of North Guadalupe Street, Carlsbad, NM passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, at his home.  Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at West Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Phillip Price of Calvary Assembly officiating.  Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section) with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.  Visitation will be 2-6 p.m Tuesday at West Funeral Home.

Ernest Marquez was born on June 3, 1946, to Abenicio and Eleanor (Rivera) Marquez in Raton, New Mexico.   Ernie was well known for boxing from 7th through 12th grade. He won the Golden Glove Championship for his weight class in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Raton High School in 1965. Then he was drafted into the US Army, where he served in the Vietnam War as a combat engineer. In his lifetime, he worked as a mechanic, electrician, coal and potash miner for 14 years. He spent many years coaching baseball and softball. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting with friends and family. Ernie was a jokester with a witty personality, who enjoyed the laughter of others.

Ernest went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2022, at 12:11 am.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abenicio and Elenor, and siblings, Victor, George, Steve, Tony, Amelia, Mary, Nancy, and Evirilia.

His wonderful life will forever be cherished by his wife, Cynthia Marquez, children Karen, Shannon, and Ernest Marquez Jr. His grandchildren, Kenneth Marquez (spouse Jessica), Jeffrey Mobley, Tina Saiz (spouse Justin), Richard Saiz Jr, Ryan Saiz, and Dylan Marquez. He is also survived by siblings, Joe Marquez, James Marquez (spouse Delores), Cecilia “Tiny” Manfredi, Gene Marquez (spouse Gertrude), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also has 15 great-grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Pallbearers: Kenneth Marquez, Jeffrey Mobley, Dylan Marquez, Richard Saiz Jr., Ryan Saiz, Justin Salcido, Andronico Roybal, and Anthony Chavez.
