Beatrice “Grandma Bea” Velasquez passed away peacefully at home in Arvada, Colorado
surrounded by her family on December 31, 2021. She was 92 years young.
Bea was born on November 7, 1929 in Ramey, Colorado to Cornelius and Crusie (Trujillo) Olguin.
She had a deep faith and love for her Lord God. All who knew her benefited from her generosity,
thoughtfulness, joyfulness, kindness, and love.
Bea was a loving and caring stay-at-home mom and housewife who loved to cook, bake (especially at Christmas), do her canning every year, embroidery, crochet, and do her Word Search Books and read
her Trinidad Chronicle Newspaper. She also enjoyed her trips with her siblings and nieces to Cripple
Creek and Central City and the “slumber parties” she had with her sisters. She loved to watch
the Colorado Rockies and cheer for her favorite player “Charlie Blackmon”. Most of all she loved
watching her girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their social and sporting events over
the years.
Bea married the “love of her life”, Louis Velasquez on September 2, 1945, in Raton, New Mexico.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband Louis Velasquez, her daughter Diane Velasquez,
her parents Cornelius and Cruise (Trujillo) Olguin, her sister Barbara Olguin, her brother Felix Olguin
and her puppy Mitzi.
Bea is survived by her two daughters Debbie (Ben) Martinez and Bernie (Dan) Weber, her five
grandchildren, Kellie Velasquez (Patrick Marquez), Adam (Vanessa) Garcia, Zach Martinez (Stephanie
Paine), Erin and Kyle Weber, and her two great-grandchildren Dylan and Jacob Armijo, also her
siblings, Mary Jane (Art) Trujillo, Dorothy Romero, James Olguin, Rose Castillo, Eleanor Olguin,
Gilbert Olguin and several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
