Dodi was born on June 11th 1968 in Las Vegas NM to Mary Ellen Martinez-Torres & Jerry Aragon Sr. She grew up in Wagon Mound NM alongside her siblings playing & learning together. She graduated from Springer High School in 1986, here she participated in assorted sports: boxing, cheerleading, track, basketball & volleyball, she also assisted her disabled school mates whenever she could.
After high School she attended TVI, now known as CNM, for woodwork in Albuquerque. Once completed, she moved to Raton where she met her future husband Manuel Romero and soon after moved to Carlsbad NM where they had two daughters: Charmaine & Chantel shortly after they returned to Raton.
Dolores was a stay-at-home mother until her children were both in Raton Head start where she became a regular volunteer leading to her certification & employment as the Headstart bus driver for several years until her daughter’s moved on to the next grades.
While her children grew up she organized & coached: volleyball, basketball & t-ball teams for several years, while also running local girl scout troop #192 & for 22 years helped assemble adult softball teams and tournaments.
Although Dodi loved being active in the community she was overjoyed when she became pregnant with her youngest, Joslin & resumed being a stay-at-home mom still often volunteering & rooting her kids on at any local game.
After the closing of the P&M mines, Dodi & her family relocated to Fayette AL in 2002. Here she resumed volunteering at the schools & became heavily involved in several churches the two she most attended was Unity Grove Baptist and Calvary Baptist.
Being a true warrior of God Dodi was able to unite 4 very different churches together in a local outreach program & also helped grow and expand a youth group called “Kids 4 Christ”. She was well known around the Fayette area for driving the church van all over town an hour prior to service picking up any kids wanting to attend but didn’t have a way.
She also worked in the Fayette County Hospital as a dietary aid, creating special bonds with long & torch short-term patients as well as coworkers for 7 years up until she & her family returned to Raton after 13 years in Alabama.
With her kids mostly grown she began working at the local grocery store, Super Save in the deli. In no time Dodi was asked to be the first supervisor of the Tortilla Factory which she ran for several years until she had a severe motorcycle wreck in 2017. Some locals still argue that the tortillas haven’t been the same since.
Dodi, being the ferocious woman she was, made a recovery & began working as a home health care aide for several people, the last being her mother.
Dodi’s smile could brighten the darkest days, she had a heart of gold & a carefree spirit. Her energy was one of a kind, bold & brave, she was a rare angel on Earth. She was friendly & kind so she often made new friends wherever she went.
She was well known around the community & could often be seen zipping between Trinidad & Springer in her little blue Kia, blasting gospel music, with her little dog and tow. She frequently attended Mesa Church services and would often times post her adventures to Snapchat while leaving encouraging messages for her “Snappers”.
When Dodi wasn’t cruising, visiting family & friends or praising, she could be found at home watching Netflix or catching a game from her favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys, the LA Lakers & the Alabama Crimson Tide. Her favorite colors were blue & purple. She loved to garden & cook & had a deep fondness for motorcycles, butterflies, the beach & all types of music.
Memorial services will be on January 15th 2022 at 11 a.m. at Mesa Church in Raton NM. Lunch will follow & the burial will be at 2:30 p.m. the same day. Dodi will be taken to her final resting site in the Springer Cemetery by motorcycle escort.
