James “Jim” Edward Montoya, 75, passed away on December 14, 2021, at his home in Lakewood, CO surrounded by his family.
Rosary will be recited at 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 18 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Des Moines, New Mexico. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Des Moines with Fr. Jason Pettigrew as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Des Moines Catholic Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Jim was born in Capulin, New Mexico to Conrado and Peggy Montoya. He was one of 8 children born on February 27, 1946. His siblings consist of Charles Montoya, Patsy and brother-in-law Richard Gregory, Monty and sister-in-law Lorene Montoya, Janet Valdez, Linda, and brother-in-law Sammy Muniz, Maria Lopez and brother-in-law Jim Martinez and Bernie and brother-in-law Carlos Fernandez. After graduating from Des Moines, New Mexico high school in 64′, he joined the Navy where he served during the Vietnam War for 5 years. He then started working for At&t, where he was a district manager working in multiple states including Indiana, New Mexico, California, and finally Denver, CO where he retired after 35 years. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 50 years, Georgianna “Hope” Montoya of Des Moines. His 6 children, Angela Finley and son-in-law Dennis Landry, Jacque, Kim, Jamie, Adam, and Chris Montoya. As well as his grandchildren Alyssa, Gabe, Caleb, Lindsey, Izzy, Lily, and Levi. Along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He joins in death his beloved daughter Kim and his 2 grandchildren, Little Kimberly and Joseph. Jim was a devout Catholic who raised all of his kids in the church. He spent his pastime fishing, working on crossword puzzles, taking care of his yard, helping to raise all of his grandchildren, whom he adored, and watching his favorite team the Green Bay Packers play football! His compassion for people and animals was seen in everything that he did and his unbelievable big heart will be missed by many.
