In Loving Memory of Pita Chavez

On Saturday, December 4, 2021, Pita Chavez passed away and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 73. Pita was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She is one of seven children born on September 17, 1948, to Felipe and Alicia Trujillo.

Pita was born in Roy, New Mexico, and raised in Cimarron, New Mexico where she met Alfonso Chavez her husband who swept her off her feet. Our mom was surprised and shocked when our dad asked her out. Our mom could not believe it when our dad asked for her hand in marriage. She gladly accepted his proposal. She was also a lifelong resident of Springer, New Mexico for the last forty years.

On September 4th, 1965, she married Alfonso Chavez. Together they raised three children Robert, Yolanda, and Bernadette. They were blessed to be able to share their love for one another for many years. Together they brought up their three children in love and taught them how to serve God.

Pita’s lifetime occupation was in the foodservice industry as a cook. Wherever she was employed she maintained a healthy working relationship with her employers and fellow employees. She worked in numerous restaurants and the Colfax General Long-Term Care Facility for many years. While working there she built strong relationships with many residents as she cooked for them, fed them, cared for them, and loved them. Her personality touched many people who grew to love her. Pita was a devout Christian and was a member of the Family Worship Center in Raton, New Mexico. She served GOD for many years with all her heart. She loved hearing the word of GOD and worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Pita enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids compete in sports. She attended most of their games. She enjoyed the outdoors and camping in the Cimarron Canyon every summer.

She was a sports fanatic and enjoyed watching most of the NBA and NFL games especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Golden State Warriors. She cheered for the team that was winning. Everyone that knew her loved her. Her laugh is unforgettable and her smile contagious.
