The Holiday season officially began in Raton on Friday evening November 26 with the lighting of the City Christmas Tree in Ripley Park.

Mayor Pro-Tem Lindé Schuster along with Commissioner Lori Chatterly gave the countdown to light the City Christmas Tree as Commissioners Ron Chavez and Don Giacomo threw the switch a bit early to the delight of the large crowd that had gathered for the event. Once the tree glowed in the cool evening air spectators walked the short distance to Historic First Street.

Just a short distance from Ripley Park the street glowed with a static light parade with floats and light displays. The legacy that Virgil Buscarini created, Winter Wonderland opened its doors again this year and the line to get in went all the way across the street.

Raton Mainstreet presented cash awards to the three best floats with 1st place going to Mesa Church 316 Youth, with Blue Sky Ranch taking the 2nd place check. Santa and his Motorcycle Sleigh received the third place vote.
