The Colfax County Road Department has been working with the New Mexico abandoned mines division.
Part of Yankee Canyon County Road A-25 that accesses state hunting land has a large hole that has an approximately 7-foot-deep cavity under the road and there are three other holes that have formed. The State of New Mexico abandoned mines division came to the location on Friday, October 22nd to evaluate the issue with the road. Arrangements are being made to bring an ultrasound machine to see how large the cavity is under the road. The State of New Mexico abandoned the mine division recommended that Colfax County keep the road temporally closed until this evaluation can be done for public safety. Upon completion of this evaluation, further information will be released at that time.
