In Loving Memory of Helen Roberta (Garrison) Haisten

 

Helen Roberta Haisten died Thursday,  October 7, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas.

Helen’s celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 6th at the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico. The family asks that memorials be made in Helen’s memory to First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico.

Helen Haisten was born November 27, 1928, at the family home near Dumas, Texas. Her birth was recorded on November 28, 1928, in Dumas, Texas. Her parents were Arthur Garrison and Anna (Stone) Garrison.

Helen married Wyman Haisten on June 1st, 1946 in Clayton, New Mexico, where they made their home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also worked at Montgomery Ward until it closed. She then worked as the Secretary at Alvis Elementary School until her retirement. She was an award-winning member of the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees (NMAER) for being an outstanding member of Clayton’s Retired Teacher’s Association.

Helen enjoyed oil painting, golf with family and friends, and playing 42.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Wyman, a daughter, Deanna, and 3 brothers, Malcolm Garrison, Kenneth Garrison, and Monroe Garrison.

Helen is survived by her three children, Terry (Haisten) Zinck and husband Leon, of San Antonio, Texas, James Haisten and wife Gail, of Houston, Texas, and Shannon Haisten and wife Twila, of Dalhart, Texas.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandson.
