In Loving Memory of Rose Skalko Marquez

Our beautiful earth angel, Rose Skalko Marquez, passed away on September 19, 2021. She was born January 20, 1932, to John Skalko Sr. and Blanch Gasperetti Skalko in Ramey, Colorado. She married Gene Marquez Sr. and they lived in Valdez and Resago, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Blanch and siblings John Skalko Jr., Mary Skalko Cesar, and Helen Skalko Baca. She was also preceded in death by her husband Gene Marquez Sr.; son Gerald Marquez; grandson Gene Joseph Marquez; son Gene Marquez Jr.; and her special friend and daughter-in-law Marlene Torres Marquez.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Bob and Carmel Skalko; sons Lenny and Kenny; daughters Patty (Mike Gerardo); Barb (Abelardo Castillo) and Susan. Surviving grandchildren include Chad (whom she helped raise), Sheila, Patrick, Michael, Kimberly, Brendon, Jesse, Geralee, Jared, Reagan, Diego, and special grandson Shayde. Great-grandchildren include Gabbie, Jackie, Kaitlynn, Caden, Ethan, Jocelyn, Westyn, Brantley, Blaine, Landon, Knox, McKenna, Aela, Saidge, Joey, and Sadie Rae.
After raising her family, Rose was employed at Nana and Nano’s Restaurant for several years. Anyone that visited her was amazed at what an excellent cook she was. She was an avid Denver Broncos fan and also enjoyed watching women’s basketball. She loved listening to music, especially Spanish/New Mexico-style music. She so enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially in the house she loved “up the river.” She was a warm and kind soul and will surely be missed.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 pm-7 pm at the Comi Chapel. Rosary will be Monday, September 27, 2021, at 7 pm at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
Active Pallbearers: Michael Gerardo, Shayde Gettler, Michael Marquez, Abelardo Castillo, Jesse Marquez, Jared and Landon Vialpando.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all her grandchildren.
Arrangements were made under the direction of the Comi Funeral Home.
