Dear RPS Families,
There is an outbreak of COVID-19 in our district. Each positive case of COVID-19 is interviewed by our school nurse and then reported to the New Mexico Public Education Department. This letter is to inform you of some of our protocols.
- The people diagnosed are being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
- The people’s mask use, social distancing, and activities while infectious were assessed.
- The people who were close contacts of the persons with COVID-19 are also assessed to determine if they need to quarantine as well. If your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19:
- The parents of all students known to have close contact with people with COVID-19 have been notified and staff who were in close contact have also been notified as well.
- Have your child isolated.
- Notify the school.
- Have your child tested.
- Keep your child home from school and avoid other activities around other people.
- Seek medical care and testing for COVID-19, calling your doctor before you show up.At this time, our school district and board of education want to ensure the safety of all of our students and families and will be voluntarily moving to remote learning for all schools and all students for a 10 day period Students will begin remote learning on Friday, September 10th, and will return to school on Monday, September 20th. We know how important it is for our students to be in school and are taking this measure to keep all students, families, and staff safe. We also want to make sure that our students have the opportunity to participate in Homecoming Week festivities. We ask for your help and support as a community to help slow the spread of COVID so that our students can return to school and participate in all the activities and events that are fun for them. Teachers will be providing learning materials and remote learning instructions on Thursday, so please send all healthy students to school tomorrow. Superintendent

- Sincerely,
- Please watch for further instructions from each of your children’s schools and teachers. If you have further questions, please contact me at (575)445-9111.
- A negative test result does not mean that your child will not develop symptoms or become sick after the test. A negative test result means that your child did not have COVID-19 detected at the time of testing. A negative test result does not mean your child can return to school before the end of the 10 days.
