In Loving Memory of Marlene Marquez

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, our beautiful mother went to join our dad, Gene in heaven. She was born June 21, 1950, to Juanita Graham and Elias Torres in Trinidad, Colorado. Preceded in death are her parents Elias and Juanita G. Torres, sister Priscilla, brothers Manuel and Floyd, father-in-law Gene Marquez Sr., brother-in-law Gerald Marquez, beloved son Gene Joseph and husband Gene. She attended Holy Trinity High School graduating in 1967 and later attended TSJC and received her beautician license. On August 7, 1971, she married the love of her life, her viejo, Gene C. Marquez. Together they raised 5 children: Sheila (TJ Duran), Patrick (Kellie Velasquez), Michael (Rosey Gardner), Kimberly (Charles Lopez, Jr.), Brendon (April Placher) and beloved niece whom she helped raise, Geralee Marquez, and Tyler (Justine) Hance and Michael Wells who were like sons to her. Her grandchildren: Gabbie, Jacquie, Kaitlynn, Caden, Ethan, Brantley, Jocelyn, Blaine and Westyn. Her step-grandchildren: Darius, Charleigh, and Jaceigh. She is also survived by mother-in-law Rose Marquez, sisters-in-law, Patty (Michael Gerado), Barb (Abelardo Lujan), Susan and brothers-in-law Lenny and Kenny, her sister-in-law Sandy Torres (Dennis), her furry little pup Sammy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and special friend Beverly Reif and cousin Bro. Harry Gonzales.

Marlene was an excellent beautician in her community for many years and worked at the Beauty Shoppe with her beloved friends Violet Fatur, Esther Barclay, Barbara and Debbie Buckle. She also helped her husband Gene run Gene’s Conoco for many years. Marlene was affectionately known as “Mommy Arlene” to everyone. She was always dressed to impress for all occasions and loved to shop. Marlene was an avid Broncos fan and loved to attend games and concerts. Her favorite place to be was at the ranch in Torres.

Marlene was a devoted woman to God and her faith.

Visitation is scheduled at Comi’s Funeral Home on Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 4pm-6pm with Rosary to follow at 7pm. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10am at Holy Trinity Church. Burial to follow in Tercio, Colorado. She will be carried to her final resting place by pallbearers; sons Patrick, Michael, and Brendon, sons-in-law TJ Duran and Charles Lopez, Jr., grandsons Caden Marquez and Ethan Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers are Tyler Hance, Phil Montoya, Lee Torres, Marc Vigil, Doug Belcher, James Lujan, Michael Wells and all her grandchildren.
