Raton Fire and Emergency Services personnel along with Colfax County Rapid Response firefighters only had a short distance to go after the call of smoke came in Wednesday afternoon at  about 2:30 p.m. for smoke at 209 N 4th Street.

The location is directly behind the Colfax County Building which is across the street from one of the fire stations for Colfax County Rapid Response and just a block and a half from the downtown RFES station. Once on the scene firefighters faced a 2-story house with a lot of smoke billowing out of several windows that were broken. Flames from the fire were contained within the structure and never exited any of the windows.

Firemen remains on the scene for several hours moping up and checking for hot spots that might be hidden in the walls.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
