In Loving Memory of Elias A. Gonzales “Chorizo”

Elias A. Gonzales “Chorizo”, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 17, 2021. Chorizo was born in Starkville, CO on May 6, 1941 to Ursula Archuleta and Melesandro Gonzales. Chorizo was one of fourteen children.

At a young age he met the love of his life Fabiola and the two were married in Taos, NM, and later married through the Catholic Church in Cimarron. Elias and Fab bought a home in Cimarron where they raised their children. Elias became a truck driver, driving eighteen wheelers all over the country for 25 years while Fab stayed home raising their young children. Once their children were School aged, Elias and Fab would eventually find work in Cimarron. Elias then began working as a carpenter for many years. The couple was known in Cimarron and the surrounding areas for being some of the best dancers.  Elias was most proud of being a grandfather, always attending school functions and sports activities.

He is preceded in death by his wife Fabiola Gonzales, Mother Ursula Archuleta, Father Melesandro Gonzales and stepmother Margie Gonzales. Brothers Ferman Gonzales, Gilbert Gonzales, Johnny Mitotes, Pete Gonzales, Sammy Gonzales, and sister Betty Hernandez.

Left to honor Chorizo and remember his love are his children, Henry and wife Katie of Wright, WY, Andrew Gonzales and Kimberly Valenzuela of Cimarron, NM, Elias and wife Rebekah Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM, Malcolm Gonzales of Cimarron, NM and Laura Gonzales of Cimarron, NM. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren Matthew, Ronaele, Thomas, Derick, Chancy, Shelby, Raena, Alyssa, Tracey, Ali, Isaac, Lexi, Clayton, Jacob, Enrique, and Emily. 17 great-grand Children, and his beloved dog Dusty. Brothers, Richard and wife Kathy Gonzales, Tommy and wife Julie Gonzales ,sisters Carmel and husband Antonio Rios, Theresa and husband Rudy Gonzales, Susie and husband Nile Green, and Corriane Orge. Many God children, nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Friday, July 30, 2021 at 09:30 a.m. at the Sister Hildegard Parish Hall, followed by reading of the Eulogy at 10:00 a.m. Solemn Mass of The Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Sister Hildegard Parish Hall. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. The family will greet friends at 9:00 a.m. at the Sister Hildegard Parish Hall until time of service. A dinner will follow at the Sister Hildegard Parish Hall, located at 440 W. 18th St. in Cimarron immediately after internment.

The Family would like to extend our gratitude to all the family and friends for the incredible support through this difficult time. Chorizo will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
