Leola Alice (Dohrman) Ebell, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Roy, NM on July 18, 2021.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hilario Ebell, her parents, Paul Dohrman and Mary (Ornales) Dohrman, her sister Edna Mae Dohrman, and her grandson Antonio Hilario (Opie) Ebell.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Ebell, Edward Ebell, Lawrence (Paco) Ebell, Loretta (Ebell) Overberger, her sister, Helen Trujillo and 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.
She was born on November 12, 1928, Leola was child of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. Her frugalness was an indication of the times in which she was raised. Dry land farming on the prairies outside of Roy, NM was the family business. Having just three daughters, Paul Dohrman enlisted the help especially of Leola, being the oldest, to work the fields and transport the fruits of their labor to the grainery in Roy. As a teenager, she drove a 2 ton “Bob tail” truck, barley able to see over the steering wheel hauling the wheat and corn. This is when Hilario Ebell first laid eyes on his future wife.
Instilled with a fierce work ethic Leola went on to graduate from Roy High School, and Albuquerque Business School with an Associate’s Degree in accounting. Married in 1948, she and Hilario found work in Rocky Ford CO, she as an accountant, he as a truck driver. She was proud of the fact that she was the highest wage earner at the time.
As their family grew, Leola became a devoted mother instilling her same work ethic and love of education in her children. All four became college educated due in large part to their mother’s encouragement.
Leola was truly a kind spirt, and we all immensely grateful for every moment we had with her. She will live on in our hearts and memories.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00AM at Curuco Cemetery at the Ebell family ranch in Roy, NM with Pastor Justin Garrison.
Meet at 484 Florsheim St. at 10:00AM.
Pallbearers will be Isaac Cates, Eddie Ebell, Paul Vincent Ebell, Scott Ebell, Zac Ebell, Koen Overberger and Tyler Overberger. Honorary Pallbearer will be Robert (Chapo) Ebell.
