In Loving Memory of Dewayne Howard

Dewayne Howard went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2021, in Trinidad Colorado. He was 81.

He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on March 25, 1940, to Fred and Cora Howard.

Dewayne was first married to Elnora Phillips in 1958 and on January 17, 1972, was united in marriage to Frances Mariano Stathis. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, watching WWII and old western movies, reading and writing, and was an avid gun enthusiast.

Preceding Dewayne in death is his wife Frances of 37 years, parents Cora and Fred Howard, brother-in-law Frank Coke, previous wife Elnora Howard, grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles.

Dewayne is survived by his children, Michelle Howard (Kathy Johnson) of Pueblo, CO; Maverick Linnemeyer (Candice Rivera) of Trinidad, CO; Douglas Howard (Lu Velasquez) of Canon City, CO; David Stathis (Pam) of Thornton, CO; Rick Stathis (Marci) of Lakewood, CO; Annette Thompson (William) of Round Rock, Texas; and Gayle Blackman (Sid) of Lott, Texas.

Grandchildren are Daniel Stathis (Trista) of Thornton, CO; Stephanie Stathis of Westminster, CO; Thomas Stathis of Thornton, CO; Dakota Howard of Canon City, CO; Shayla Howard of Arvada, CO; Lyle Thompson of Round Rock, Texas; and Raymond Thompson of Round Rock, Texas and 7 great grandchildren.

Sister-in Law Gloria Coke of Trinidad CO.

Special Friend and companion Wanda Lutz of Trinidad CO.

Many cousins and other relatives.

Dewayne was born in Shawnee, OK in 1940. His family moved to Espanola, New Mexico when he was 15. He then moved to Boulder, CO and worked at Flat Iron Construction for a short period. He attained his GED before joining the Colorado State Patrol in April 1968 where he was assigned to Trinidad following his graduation from the academy. He spent his entire career in Trinidad. He retired from the State Patrol in May 1995 with 27 years of service in Colorado.

Viewing for Dewayne will be held on Tuesday July 13th from 3:00 – 6:00pm at Comi Funeral Home located at 1804 E. Main Street in Trinidad.

A celebration of Life Services will be held on Wednesday July 14th at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church located at 200 S. Walnut Street also in Trinidad.

Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Daniel Stathis, Thomas Stathis, Dakota Howard, Paul Borden, Janice Rubidoux and Justin Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers are all Colorado State Patrol peers.
