Elbert Benjamin (Bennie) Kirksey was born August 12, 1933 to Elbert Kirksey and Effie Lavisa Cole Kirksey in Roy New Mexico. He attended Roy Public Schools from 1939-1952. After graduation he attended New Mexico A&M in Las Cruces on a football scholarship. Upon returning to Roy, he married Freddy Jane Porterfield on April 12, 1953. They had 4 children: Jeri Lea, Rex Elbert, Scott Porter and Nancy Jane. Bennie spent his life ranching and farming primarily in NM.
Bennie was a resilient, determined, and driven person. He lived through the great depression, the dust bowl, and the global pandemic of COVID 19. He was called to heaven on June 25, 2021 while at his home in Tucumcari, NM, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jeri Robinson and son Rex Kirksey. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Freddy Kirksey, son Scott Kirksey, his wife Denise, daughter Jane Piazza, her husband Dino, Daughter-in-law Cyndie Kirksey, 16 grandkids, their spouses and 34 greatgrand kids. Cremation has taken place and burial will occur later.
