Raton baseball and softball hosted St Mikes Friday afternoon in games that would normally be played at the same time but extenuating circumstances moved the boys game to noon with the girls playing at 3:00 p.m.
Over at Gabriele Field St Mikes started the scoring with one run in the first inning only to have Raton double it with two runs in the bottom of the first. Raton then held St Mikes to three up three down in the second and four up and three down in the third. Raton added another two to make it a 4-1 ball game after three.
Dylan Quartieri went the distance for Raton and allowed only two more runs in the fifth inning and a final run in the seventh. Raton added two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to give Raton the win with a final 9-4 score.
On the softball diamond it was a close one as Raton and St Mikes traded runs with a tie game at two after one and a 4-4 tie after three innings. Both St Mikes and Raton’s pitcher walked batters when they struck the batter with the ball. This put runners on base and added runs to the total as the afternoon wore on.
Raton ended the fourth inning up 5-4 but walks by pitcher Gianna Marez along with hits into the open field added more runs for St Mikes who took the lead at 8-5 after five innings. A rally in the seventh gave St Mikes a 14-5 win.
