A brief appearance of severe weather manifested on Friday afternoon May 28, with at least two separate funnel clouds spotted in NENM. A Springer Police report on Facebook said one tornado was spotted west of Maxwell and then Springer PD spotted another one northwest of Springer. No damage was reported.
The funnels appeared on the eve of the anniversary of the May 29, 1964 Maxwell Tornado which killed one and injured eight.
Another brief bout of severe weather was reported by Capulin Volcano National Monument as quarter-size hail fell there.
