Mary Faye Caligaris, longtime local resident, passed away peacefully at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home. Faye was 94 years old.
Faye, as she was known, was born on February 9, 1927, in Segundo Colorado. Faye’s given Christian name was Maria Felonis Armijo. She was one of eight children of Luis and Elvira Armijo. Faye attended Trinidad Catholic schools and graduated from Garfield High School in Los Angeles, California. She was preceded indeath by her husband, Emilio Caligaris; mother and father, Elvira and Luis Armijo; brothers, Art, Frank, John B., Moses, Louis, Jr., sister, Helen, and son-in-law, Ralph Trujillo.
Faye is survived by her children, Nancy Nielsen (Ron) of La Veta, CO; Michael Caligaris (Sherri) of Fresno, CA; and Mary Trujillo of Trinidad; grandchildren, Rhiannon, Shaylynn, Charles, Maria, Mike Jr., Haley, and Tori; great grandchildren Omega, Oriana, Chrystin, and Emily, and Xavier; sister, Ascension Armijo of Lakewood, Colorado, and, many, many nieces and nephews.
Faye was a delightful, fun loving person who enjoyed knowing and talking to everyone she met and, having an occasional glass of wine. In her early adult years, she worked at Kress’s Department Store, Pinon Truck Shop, and Ben Franklin’s, and, the Hallmark Gift Shop. She, was a long-time volunteer (20 years) with the Trinidad Welcome Center. Faye and Emilio were active members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 3pm-7pm at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Comi Funeral Home Chapel with Rosary at 10 am , followed by the services at 10:30am with Brother Harry Gonzales officiating .
Entombment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers Jerome Armijo, Eugene Armijo, John B. Armijo, Joe Tarabino and Ray Martinez.
Active pallbearers are Jerry Armijo, Frank Armijo, Gilbert Armijo, Ron Nielsen, John Caligaris and Haley Caligaris.
