Born in Wheeler TX, Vesta moved with her family to Branson CO as a small child. She grew up between Branson CO and Trinidad CO. After graduating from Raton High School she went on to earn her teaching degree from the Colorado Teachers College in Greeley CO.
In 1937 Vesta married Charles J Toller who grew up in Tollerburg CO and was a classmate of hers at Raton High School. They had 3 children and spent their adult lives living at their house on Pecos St in Raton NM.
Vesta prided herself as a mother and homemaker but she also spent many years working as a bookkeeper for Toller Pontiac and Miners Colfax Hospital. She was passionate about her family, her church and helping others. Vesta was also fiercely independent, never letting the bear(s) who came down the mountain to feast on her peach tree stop her from her daily walks and did not stop driving over to Trinidad CO to see her sister until the age of 97.
Throughout the years of Vesta’s lifetime she touched many lives and based on the stories told, visits enjoyed and letters received it is abundantly clear she was dearly loved by a great number of people.
Vesta spent her last years in Tucson AZ living with her son Ret Toller for several years before moving to Waverly House where she passed peacefully in her sleep.
