A cold snowy afternoon greeted the Tucumcari Rattlers as they arrived in Raton Saturday April 17, for a single varsity game with the Tigers who sent them home in the cold and a loss.

Tucumcari stayed close in the first quarter ending the quarter down by five after both teams had a battle from 3-point territory with Raton sinking three while Tucumcari dropped in four. Raton however turned the second quarter into a Tiger fest as they held Tucumcari to only three points which they finally scored with less than two minutes left in the quarter.

The Rattlers came out of the locker room loaded for Tiger as they scored early in the quarter and started whittling away at the point spread. Raton didn’t take too long to get back in the groove as Dylan Quartieri dropped in three 3-pointers and outscoring the Rattlers by two.

After a couple of calls Rattler Head Coach John Span became a bit aggravated and was asked to leave the game. Matthew Quartieri did the free throw duties and sunk six of six free throws covering a foul and two technical fouls by the coach. Matthew went on to sink four more free throws to end the quarter 10 for 10 from the charity line. His free throws accounted for more than half the Tiger’s points in the quarter. As the buzzer sounded it was 32 point spread to end the game 80-48.
