Halfway through the crammed one month basketball schedule Raton hosted the Robertson Lady Cardinals for a district game in Tiger Gym Friday night April 16, 2021.
The JV game was a bit better for Raton than the varsity game but Robertson still took home the win but only 14 points. Samantha Phillips was the main bread winner for Raton 12 points.
Raton had a very good first quarter but what happened in the second left Lady Tiger fans shaking their head and wondering what happened as Raton could only manage two points. It was an 11 to 14 game at the end of the first quarter but at halftime it was a 40-13 Robertson lead. Raton simply couldn’t buy a basket as missing all six free throws they attempted.
The second half started much the way the second quarter ended as Raton could only muster up seven points to Robertsons 13. Raton again unable to even buy a basket as Robertson continued their pressure play. It was often seen under the basket that the ball would go up for grabs and stay that way as players hustled to grab the handle and gain control.
Raton had a much better fourth quarter as they outscored Robertson 18-11. Raton ended the game with three players in foul trouble while struggling to catch up. When the buzzer sounded ending this district game Robertson took the win home.
