Donna Sue Weisdorfer Milson, age 72, passed away very unexpectedly on April 2, 2021 at her home in Roy, New Mexico. Donna was born on June 14, 1948 to parents Donald William Weisdorfer Sr. and Sue Esther Payton Weisdorfer. Donna was the eldest child of three, followed by sister June and brother Donald Jr.
Donna was a wonderful and loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born and raised in Roy, New Mexico, she was an integral part of the small community. She attended Roy Schools and graduated as Valedictorian from Roy High School in 1966. After a few years away, Donna returned to Roy to raise her family. She worked for the bank in Roy for 43 years, from 1972 until its closing in 2015. She remained loyal and dedicated to the community through several bank mergers over the years. Never one to be idle, Donna then worked part-time at the Harding County General Store until its closure in December 2019.
For most of her life, Donna was a dedicated civil servant. She was a 68-year, proud member of the local American Legion Auxiliary Unit 33-Roy, Department of New Mexico, beginning as a Junior Member in 1952. Donna believed in the mission of the Auxiliary and selflessly served as a member, 1st Vice President in 1983-1984 and 2017-2018, 2nd Vice President in 2007-2008 and 2015-2016, and as President from 2018-2019. She was nominated and awarded the Department of New Mexico Member of the Year for 2014-2015 for her commitment and service to the organization. Donna helped with many fundraisers, memorials, and celebrations in the area and always made every effort to attend these events. Donna also held the offices of Trustee and Mayor Pro-Tem for the Village of Roy during her 30 years of service. Her presence at meetings and events throughout the community will be greatly missed.
Donna was an avid bowler, and was a member of several bowling leagues, competing weekly at lanes in Raton, Trinidad and Tucumcari. Her team traveled and competed throughout the region, and she also had the opportunity to attend the national competition in Reno, NV. One of her favorite tournaments was the annual one in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Her bowling partners included her mother Sue (until her passing), her sister June, friends Dorothy Hazen and Judy Casados, and numerous other bowlers, too many to mention, but not forgotten. Many a weekend was spent traveling and enjoying each other’s company on these bowling adventures. Donna always enjoyed the sibling rivalry with June and relished the times she bowled higher scores during competitions, which she admitted was not often.
Her dear friend, Paige Wilson, was her traveling partner for many years, joining Donna on shopping excursions, getting pedicures together, and going on other fun trips around the state. Paige and Donna shared a wonderful friendship and we are thankful for the great times they spent together.
Donna loved her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could. When they were younger, she often had a house full of kids in the summers. She enjoyed watching them play sports and attended many games and other school events throughout their school years. She was very proud of her grandkids and always had a story to share after spending time with them. Donna was especially excited about her expectant new great-grandchildren due in June and September. She was a loving and proud Grandma who will be dearly missed by her grandchildren.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents Donald and Sue Weisdorfer, and her eldest son Harlan “Buddy” Milson. She is survived by her son John Weisdorfer and wife Joy, daughter Tammy Chamberlain, sister June Mahoney, brother Donald Weisdorfer Jr. and wife Lina, dear friend Paige Wilson, grandchildren Rumaldo Pacheco, Jose Pacheco and wife Laura, Michael Luker, Jaidyn Swartz, Shiann Weisdorfer, Kyra Weisdorfer, Harlan Milson and wife Kelsey, Marshall Milson, Ariana Patterson, and great-grandsons Brandon Weisdorfer, Lane Bordelon, and Harlan “Luke” Milson, as well as many nephews and nieces.
