Robert Santos Romero, the son of the late Santos and Faye Romero, passed away on July 15, 2020. Robert was born in Roy, New Mexico, on April 20, 1949. He attended Roy Public Schools up to his high school graduation in 1967.
While at Roy High School, Robert was active in many extracurricular activities. He was especially adept and very successful in athletics. Robert played on two winning State Football Championship Teams during his junior and senior years in high school. He was a starter in basketball his junior and senior years of high school. Additionally, he was the Roy High School record holder in the two mile run. Robert was voted Most Handsome Senior student at Roy High School.
Later he earned a welding certificate at Luna Community College.
After graduation from high school, the family moved to Springer, New Mexico, where his father, Santos Romero, got the employment of Chief of Police for the Springer Police Department.
Robert moved to Springer and met Angela Esquibel, whom he later married.
They were blessed with two sons Robert John Romero (BJ) and Roman Santos Romero. BJ blessed them with a granddaughter, Santana Faye (partner Adrian Salazar) and great granddaughter Adalyn Azalea. Roman blessed them with a grandson, Santos Rey Romero.
Upon their marriage, Robert and Angela went to work for Bill and Annie Lane as caretakers of the Bell Ranch Hacienda.
After several years, Robert and Angela returned to the Springer area, where he worked construction. Robert was a talented carpenter and was well known as one of the best cement finishers in the area.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Faye Romero, sister Mary Louise Aguilar Maestas, and brothers Floyd Aguilar and Carlos Romero.
He is survived by his sons BJ Romero and partner Frances Williams Trujillo of Taos, NM; granddaughter Santana Faye and partner Adrian Salazar and their daughter Adalyn Azalea of Springer, NM; Roman Romero and grandson Santos Rey Romero of Raton, NM; brothers John Aguilar of Roy, NM; Patrick and wife Linda Romero of Corpus Christi, TX; sister Georgia Arellano and husband Henry of Bernallilo, NM; sister Rose and husband Michael Ramirez of Springer, NM. Robert also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, many cousins, and friends.
