RATON, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man is accused of murdering his neighbor after what investigators say was a long-standing feud. According to a criminal complaint, 51-year-old David Morgan called police to his Raton home Thursday telling dispatchers he had shot a man. That man turned out to be Morgan’s neighbor James McDowell.
Morgan told officers McDowell came at him before the shooting but investigators say McDowell was not armed and Morgan shot him nine times. Prosecutors say they were a long history of conflict between the two. They are working to keep him locked up until trial.

On April 1, at about 3:08 pm, Raton Police Dept. Officers were dispatched to a residential area in the 900 Block of North 1st St. in reference to shots being fired. An RPD Officer arrived on the scene in the alley, and located a male victim identified as James McDowell, age 77 of Raton suffering from several gunshot wounds.
A suspect identified as David Morgan, age 51 or Raton, had contacted Central Dispatch via 911 and advised that he had shot McDowell and requested an ambulance. Raton police took Morgan into custody without further incident. Raton EMS arrived on the scene, but were unable to revive McDowell as he had already succumbed to his injuries.
David Morgan has been book into the Vigil-Maldonado Detention Center on an open count of 1st Degree Murder.

Frank Jamison was murdered this same day, the same cowardly way many years ago. Also, by a man who lived on North 1st Street. Holy Thursday is the Holiest day of the year. Jesus in his last day, told both men one on his left, and one on his right ,”Today you shall a place in paradise with me.” I find this to be true for both of these men. For it is not of us to Judge but only to forgive. Let Jesus do his job not us!
