A RETURN TO HS SPORTS FOR THE TIGERS!
In what has no doubt been a long awaited start to the RHS sports season Coach JR Alderette had his Running Raton Tigers open up the sports season at the Cimarron XC meet this past Saturday. While only a few teams participated it was a welcomed treat to see the RHS athletes competing for OUR school and community once again.
In what I describe as the most mentally and physically grueling sport around, XC is not for the faint of heart. Varsity athletes are typically battling the elements, physical pain and mental exhaustion as they make their way around a 5K course. RHS XC athletes though had a rare treat on Saturday with almost perfect conditions to open up their season on a beautifully scenic course.
Team result had Cimarron, a historically strong and well pedigreed running program, winning the meet with a total of 25pts and Raton coming in 2nd with a total of 30pts. Points are accumulated by the position of the TOP 5 athletes to finish with the lowest accumulated points winning. Although Chase Kamp won the competition by running an 18:20 it was not enough to overcome the consistency of the Ram runners. Chance Kamp came in strong with a 4th place finish, as Logan Sisco came in 6th, with Kaleb Salazar and Nathan Vasquez finishing out the TOP 5 runners for the Tigers.
The Jr High XC had many athletes participate which is a necessity to establishing the XC programs for years to come. Congratulations to all who participated and we look forward to seeing your growth as runners and athletes and achieving improved times along the way.
