Elva, my friend and aunt, my sister. She was the eldest, by about 5 minutes, of her twin and two years older than Elsie. Three years older than me. We all grew up together as friends. We had many great times running and playing in the orchard on the Gossert Place where they lived. Many ice cream eating contests after the boys turned the crank with we girls taking turns sitting on burlap bags folded on top of the ice to keep it from spilling out. Then the contest of who could eat the most! Duane always won–he was the biggest. This was after we all ate at Grandma’s big table piled high with the best food ever made and best pies in the world.
Elva learned from her mom, as we all did.
When we grew up letters kept us connected and the past years of living relatively close were a God send. Memories are a good thing. To my cousins, keep the good memories close and forget the bad.
Love you all and sorry for us that she is gone. But she is happy and not lonely now!!!
