In Loving Memory of Alice Garcia

Alice Garcia passed away on February 13, 2021, at the age of 96 while living at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home, Trinidad, CO.  Alice May (Bayley) Garcia was born on June 20, 1924, in North London.  She has lived in Trinidad, Colorado since February 1947, when she came to the United States to marry the love of her life, Filbert Garcia.  They celebrated 60+ years together before Filbert passed in 2010.

 

On April 15, 1947, Filbert and Alice Garcia were married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  Alice attended TSJC in 1959 to refresh secretarial skills learned in London, following that she became an American citizen June 1961.  She received her Colorado Driver’s License in 1966.  She worked at Trinidad Cable TV from 1960 until her retirement in 1989.  In honor of her work at Bletchley Park during WWII as a code breaker, she received a medal from Queen Elizabeth II.  After retiring, Alice volunteered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church every Monday morning as one of the “counting ladies” until her health changed.  In January 2011 Alice made Trinidad State Nursing Home (now Trinidad Inn) her forever home.

 

“Nanny” will be lovingly remembered for her personal courage, gracious way of living life, and the kindness she showered upon family and friends in the US and in England.  Alice was gifted with exceptional talents in baking, sewing, knitting, needlework, gardening, singing, and playing the piano.   Memories of her English accent and devotion to her family both in the US and UK are cherished by her family.

 

Alice is predeceased by Sheriff Filbert Garcia, his family members which include Felix and Margaret Garcia, and Filbert’s many brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews, and one great-granddaughter, Joslyn Renee Garcia.  She is also predeceased by many family members in England, including; parents, Alice Maude (Porter) Bayley and Alfred Bayley; sister and brother-in-law, Beryl (Bayley) Bird and Ted Bird.

 

Surviving in the US are her two sons and their families; John E. Garcia and Michael A. Garcia; and nieces and nephews in England, UK.

 

Son, John E. and Mary A. Garcia (Parker, CO); grandson Major CSP Steven J. Garcia (Tammy) and family in Parker, CO; and granddaughter Christine M. (Dan) Wheeler and family in Parker, CO.

 

Son, Michael A. and Judy Garcia (The Villages, FL); granddaughter Sherri (Allan) Black and family Scotland, UK; and granddaughter Melissa (Rob) Gault and family, Littleton, CO.

 

She also leaves special family/friends: the Falsetto Family, of Trinidad, CO; and all Caregivers and friends at Trinidad Inn Nursing Home, Trinidad, CO who have lovingly attended to her needs for the past 10 years.

 

A Memorial Service will take place at the Comi Funeral Home on Friday, February 26, 2021, at 1 pm in the afternoon.  Condolences will be accepted for the family through Comi Funeral Home, 1804 East Main Street, Trinidad, CO 81082, and also to; Mike & Jude Garcia, 2623 Bainbridge Lane, The Villages, FL 32162.

 

The family asks, in lieu of flowers, to please make a contribution to the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Building Fund, 235 North Convent Street, Trinidad, CO 81082.  Please note that your donation is in memory of Alice Garcia.

    Alice Garcia, I feel so blessed to have had the pleasure of spending many days with Alice, we spent so much time laughing, joking and telling stories about our lives!
