In Loving Memory of Herman “Bud” Brown

Herman “Bud” Brown passed away of age-related causes on February 9th, 2021, in Raton, New Mexico. He was 96 years old.Bud was born on May 31st, 1924, to Thomas and Mollie Brown at their ranch house near Des Moines, New Mexico, where he lived for the next 94 years. He graduated from Des Moines High School in 1941. Bud served in the Navy during World War II. He married Rose Marie Hancock In December of 1946 and they had two children, Raylene and Burl. They spent their married life on the family ranch and celebrated 71 years together before her passing in 2018. In the winter of 2018, Bud moved to Legacy Assisted Living in Trinidad and then in 2020 to BeeHive Assisted Living in Raton. His family will forever be grateful for the loving, compassionate care he received. A special thank you to Dr. Christine Lopez and her staff, and hospice team Robin Pilley and Connie Shields, for the exceptional care they provided. He appreciated and loved all of you.Bud made his choice to serve the Lord at an early age and remained true to this calling to his final day. Bud loved the western way of life…good horses, good cattle, and wide-open spaces. He was a true cowboy. He worked at Five State Livestock Auction in Clayton, NM, for over 46 years, retiring when he was 88. He had many good friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter Raylene, son-in-law Steve, and by Steve’s 2nd wife Karla. He was also preceded by his mother and father-in-law Homer and Anna Hancock, his infant twin sisters Hallie and Callie, sister Lenora, brother and sister-in-law John and Anna Brown, and niece Brenda Christy.

Bud is survived by his son Burl (Karen) Brown and by his grandchildren Bruce (Shelly) Coleman, Shari (Alex) Carroll, Damon (Jennifer) Brown, Ryan (Pennie) Brown, Brian (Aubrey) Coleman, Stephanie (Derek) Releford, and 13 great-grandchildren. His brother-in-law George Hancock, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Because of current COVID restrictions, a memorial service for Bud will be held at a later date.
