A viewing will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Hass Funeral Home in Clayton from 8:00 AM till 7:00 PM. On Saturday, February 27th, 2021 viewing will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. Jason Pettigrew as celebrant. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Carolina M. Gonzales was born on June 24, 1924, in Roy, New Mexico to Doroteo M. Martinez and Carolina M. Martinez. She grew up in Harding County on the Carrizo Ranch and graduated from Roy High School and attended the University of New Mexico for two years and then returned home to work when WWII started. Carolina married Julian R. Gonzales on November 12, 1951, in Mosquero, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1962. She lost her parents and husband all in an eighteen-month period and raised her children on her own. Carolina was the first single widowed woman in New Mexico that was allowed to adopt. They lived in the Barney community until 1987 when she moved to Albuquerque where she worked as a live-in caregiver for families for about 5 years. Carolina enjoyed singing, dancing, sewing and playing bingo and she loved the Lord and was a very spiritual lady. In addition to her husband and parents, Carolina was preceded in death by a son; Julian Gonzales, and by 5 brothers; Arthur Martinez, Teddy Martinez, Tony Martinez, Eppie Martinez, and Lazaro Martinez.
SURVIVORS:
3 DAUGHTERS: Maria Elena Lira and her husband Rocky of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Maria Blanca Saavedra and Sharon M. Gonzales and her husband Miguel all of Clayton, New Mexico.
2 SONS: Rafael T. Gonzales and his wife Lita of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Ramon A. Gonzales of Black Lake, New Mexico.
24 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
1 SISTER: Maria Martinez Sanchez of Roy, New Mexico.
And numerous nieces and nephews.
